For the launch of our own branded club night “DEBOX PRESENTS”, we bring one of the finest artists the international techno circus has to offer to town for an intimate club gig.
Well, what can you say about Timo Maas -this guy has basically accomplished anything a DJ and producer could dream of: a German Dance Award, Grammy nomination, releases on the most prestigious labels, remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Madonna or Fastboy Slim, gigs at the best clubs and biggest festivals around the globe… Nevertheless, he is always looking ahead, redefining himself in the underground again with his new label “Rockets & Ponies”. “It’s all about taking the experiences from all the years before and watching and learning from the changing music market and that’s what I’m doing: reinvention.”
The first residency at DEBOX PRESENTS will be taken by Fabian Bussmann. Being a DEBOX artist from the outset, Fabian has become an insider’s tip in the German club scene of the last few months. As a permanent guest at the “Bunker Meets” and “NiceToMeetYou” events at the Goethebunker in Essen he has shared decks with acts like Efdemin, Stefan Goldmann, Mathias Schaffhauser or Jake the Rapper, and clearly proven that he belongs to the pro league.

After his highly acclaimed releases on Tonkind and Electrotribe, we are proud to welcome Breger to the DEBOX family. The Essen based promoter and DJ once again delivers a mesmerising release. The title track “Deine Therapie” is a hypnotic symphony of sinister sounds, driven by a massive bassline and spiced up with spooky pads and savage tribal drums. “Sprout Out” is a relentless tech house stomper, which takes the listener on a twisted rollercoaster ride through layers of sweeping sound effects, driven by energetic percussion. The flipside of the EP comes with a mind blowing remix of “Deine Therapie” from none other than Mr. Mathias Schaffhäuser himself -not only remixing but also adding his signature vocals to the track.

Breger has been active as a DJ, producer and promoter for almost ten years now. Born and raised in Wuppertal he has been living in Essen, Germany since 1990. His musical socialization from the Beatles and Michael Jackson to Ton Steine Scherben and the Dead Kennedys prepared him well for the crazy things to come. The in your face- sound of The Prodigy made him realize that electronic dance music and punk rock are not a contradiction. This insight encouraged him to fully live his breakbeat ambitions from now on, which lead to a remarkable increase of drum and bass parties in the Rhur Area.
From the beginning these parties always included a big techno floor. In the following years, this techno floor and it’s four to the floor beat gained a bigger and bigger influence on Breger to which he fully surrendered end of 2004. Ever since he contributed his share as a resident DJ and promoter of the Beatplantation and Kabelkinder party series, which made these events two of the most established in the Rhur Area club scene. Parallel, he started producing and developing his signature sound. Eventually, he also became resident DJ and booker for the Essen based Gold Club.
Breger’s musical style varies from deep and minimal house to savage techno beats. The important thing for him is that his music contains a certain kind of groove and ensures ecstatic dancefloors. His first releases and remixes on Elektrotribe were highly acclaimed in the German club scene, but also as a DJ, Breger was not less active. Since 2005 he has absolved more than a hundred club gigs, always leaving a very pleased crowd and a lasting impression.

DEBOX welcomes another exceptional artist. 24 year old talent Christian Schwarz delivers a debut that easily matches the production standard of guys that have been in the business for years and clearly stands out from the monthly pile of same sounding tracks. „Before you told me“, which features Christian‘s own vocals comes along with fat analog synth sounds, dark atmosphere and a detail orientation and emotional depth which reminds of Trentemoeller or Swayzak. The massive remix package features versions by spanish DJ legend Memo and the London based producer duo Dzeta N Basile. Memo combines the original with pumping house grooves and a spoonful of retro coolness to an extremely danceable mixture while Dzeta N Basile fragmentize the catchy vocals, creating a hypnotic, tribal infected minimal track which will surely have the same effect on the dancefloor. Last but not least „Sternenfänger“ (starcatcher) takes the listener on a journey through a strange soundscape, following the beat along beautifully distorted structures and experimental contrasts.

If we talk about Memo today, we talk about a living legend, we talk about versatility, passion, riskiness and above all elegance. He is, and always has been, ahead of the times.
Posssesing an impressive technique and an almost impossible style to classify, Memo is a master of scratch and turntablism and one of the most diverse and prolific djs Spain has to offer. With a wide range of musical styles and sounds, anything Memo touches, he becomes… whether it be techno, minimal, electro, tech house, breaks or Nu rave, electronic B boy funk or dancefloor destruction – Memo IS music. Starting out in 1992 when Spain was involved with the Olympic Games and the Expo92 conference, a 12 year old boy began playing the guitar and singing in a rap metal group which he did alongside his piano studies at the anterquera city music conservatory. It was around this time he had the desire to introduce electronic soundbites into his band compositions and Memo discovered and fell in love with scratching and the turntable – the true culprit for his introduction into the world of electronic beats. In 1994 Memo left the band to start his dj career in a time when Spain was experiencing its first southern rave wave. He took no time to gather a loyal following and around 15 monthly sets throughout the country where he rapidly toned his skills and techniques along with a visually amazing show. To see Memo live is to witness both a visually and auditory electronic odessey in motion. After 14 years in the industry, Memo should be considered as one of the major players on the scene and has passed through an infinity of booths and clubs in his native Spain and also abroad. He has clocked up three appearances at Space (Ibiza), one of them being at the highly renowned night of Carl Cox and each time playing live and alongside the likes of Derrick May and Adam Freeland. Other clubs have been, Privilege (Ibiza), Catwalk, Zen club, Moog, Kubik (Bcn), Industrial Copera, as well as various festivals: Esparragorock, F.I.M.E.S. festivalia, Eurosounds, Rocketfestival, TribalNation, Flashback, BreakNation, Live Dance Festival. Overseas, he has played at Stereo bar (Berlin), 54, Café 1001 and Public Life in London, PALAFITOS in the Domincan Republic, and SHAGA (Mexico). He has shared the line up with some of the world’s finest producers, djs and groups including Prodigy, Cristal method, Orbital, Public Enemy, Carl Cox, Ritchie Hawtin, Jeff Mills among many many others. On a production level, Memo’s creations have already found their way into the hearts and bags of world class artists such as Carl Cox. Currently Memo directs his own studio in Barcelona and a two headed label BOAYER and PornoSchool Records whose first release ‘12345678910’ in 2006 received critical aclaim from Alexander Kowalski who slotted the track in at number 1 on his charts. In the last couple of years he has edited for various labels such as 4line records, Digital Bonus, Subtronic, Nautral Break, and started this year with the e.p ‘Raices’ on Indigo Raw records – featured on Carl Cox’s Ibiza 2009 compilation CD. Remixes for Pig and Dan (Cocoon) and a remix for the Dylan Ryhmes tune ‘Kemptown’ on the mythical label LOT 49 and sharing disco with artists such as Meat Katie, Pablo Decoder and Sharoz… DJ MEMO

Italian duo Davide Zeta and Claudio Basile moved to London from Milan in 96’ & 97’ respectively, they quickly achieved themselves their individual niches in London’s spotlight as promoter/DJ duo, moving into production with their first official releases in 2008, Claudio as a solo artist, and Davide as part of ”Slimboystwo”. When they finally joined forces for their first release as ”DZeta N’ Basile” gained lots of attention from different record labels throughout UK and Europe. Claudio’s sound comes from a progressive background and Davide’s has more of a house feeling. The result is a unique blend of hypnotic grooves, deep vibe and minimal/house beats, which is the trademark of their style. After less than a year running, with DJ performances in London’s most important venue and 10 singles released, the future is looking bright.

Almost two years after his highly acclaimed debut, Fabian Bussmann is back with a release on DEBOX. And the waiting was worthwhile! Sometimes I’m Invisible is a remarkable piece of work and shows an recognizable advancement in Fabians production skills. “Or Else” on the A- side is predestinated to be played on a big sound system. Dark, athmospeheric, reverberated with lots of freaky delays and effects and equipped with a powerful bassline the track creates a tension that will surely massively discharge on the dancefloors this summer. The remix on the B- side was created by Bastian Buesser who recently attracted a lot of attention with his releases on DEBOX and Endlich Elektro. Buessers interpretation of the track is a deeper, more playful approach of the theme. Without touching the basic structure of the track he constructs a more relaxed, athomospheric vibe, taking back the tempo and adding a new bassline to the adaption. The title track “Sometimes I’m Invisible” clearly distinguishes from the the A- side and presents a different side of Fabians work coming along with a groovy bassline and lots of percussive elements.
